OU/EDI Standards

Admission Criteria

Admission to OU/EDI is dependent on meeting one of the following criteria:

  • Completion of an IEDC accredited Economic Development Course (often called a "Basic Course").
  • Completion of the CUED/IEDC "Introduction to Economic Development" Course.
  • Five (5) years employment in a full-time economic development position (please submit resume').
  • Other equivalent education and/or experience (please submit resume').

Applications are approved on the basis of individual qualifications and are not transferable. Admission to OU/EDI is open to members and non-members of IEDC.

Attendance Policy

Participants attending the University of Oklahoma's Economic Development Institute shall be required to be present at all classes in which they are registered in order to graduate.  No excuses for absence shall be accepted except those of illness, family emergency or business emergency. Prior approval must be obtained in writing from the OU/EDI Director or Dean and then submitted to the OU/EDI office. Each occurrence will be handled on a case-by-case basis.

IMPORTANT: Travel convenience is not considered to be an emergency. When making travel arrangements, participants should plan to arrive prior to start of classes which begin mid-day on Sunday and not depart before the last class ends at 5:30pm on Thursday.

Definitions

  • Business Emergency - one in which a client, the superior of a participant, or an elected officer of his/her organization contacts the OU/EDI Director or Dean of the institute with a request for resolving a business need.
  • Family Emergency - serious illness of spouse, children or parents; death of an immediate family member (grandparents, parents, spouse, children).
  • Illness - sickness serious enough to cause the student to require the services of a physician.

graphicCompletion Requirements

Completion of The University of Oklahoma Economic Development Institute requires 117 hours of course work which is accomplished by attending three sessions of OU/EDI.

Those having attended:

  • Session I - have completed 39 hours of course work

  • Session II - have completed 78 hours of course work.

Please Note: Graduation from OU/EDI no longer requires completion of an out-of-classroom project (Thesis or Professional Project).
